Voltu Motor, the maker of zero-emission commercial vehicles that is moving to Riverside, will conduct a pilot program in the city.
The project, announced Feb. 3, will put 10 Voltu3 electric work trucks on the streets as part of Riverside’s Fleet Initiative, according to a company statement.
The South Coast Air Quality Management District, and the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Committee, will provide $600,000 toward the program, which will last six months.
A starting date for the program was not announced.
Voltu will showcase its onboard fast-charging systems and advanced powertrain technology. The fast charger uses the vehicle’s motor and power electronics to allow fast charging up to 200 kW, which reduces the number of charging stations needed.
Originally from Argentina, Voltu recently announced it will move its headquarters and global manufacturing operations to Riverside. Its vehicles save money, in part by reducing infrastructure costs.
The vehicles to be used in the pilot program will be the first produced by Voltu in Riverside, according to the statement.
