Construction has started on the second phase of Copper Creek Park in Perris.
A groundbreaking ceremony that was attended by Mayor Michael M. Vargas, city council members, and representatives for State Sen. Richard Roth, D-Riverside, and Assemblyman Dr. Corey Jackson, D-Moreno Valley, was held Nov. 14, according to a statement on the city’s website.
“It’s a great day for our city, and me personally, because I’ve used this park since I was a child,” said Councilman Malcolm Corona in the statement. “Seeing this park ignored, and now getting attention with this vision in mind feels great, It’s important to note our residents took ownership of this project and I want to express gratitude to everyone who helped bring a quality park to our community.”
Phase Two will include concrete and decomposed walking paths a playground, and a butterfly garden with education signs and furnishings, among other amenities.
Copper Creek Park is an eight-acre facility at 217 Citrus Ave., less than a half-mile from Perris High School. It’s open daily from dawn to dusk and is accessible by foot, bicycle, and vehicle. Copper Creek Park Phase II is expected to be completed next summer.
