Famed San Bernardino Hotel on the market

The Arrowhead Springs Hotel in San Bernardino, once a getaway spot for Hollywood royalty, is up for sale.

The Campus Crusade for Christ, which has owned the resort since 1962 , is asking $60 million for the 1,900-acre property in the San Bernardino Mountains, according to a report published in the San Bernardino County Sun.

Now known as “Cru,” the Campus Crusade hopes to complete a sale by the end of the year, according to the report.

There are 240,000 square feet of buildings on the site, including the historic hotel, a spa, dormitories, 11 bungalows, a chapel and a swimming pool. The site is zoned for 1,350 residential units, 800,000 square feet of commercial buildings and a hotel.

Developing the site would be a huge economic boost for San Bernardino, and city officials have pledged to do whatever they can to help get the property sold, according to the report.

Cru built the facility and used it as its corporate headquarters, but the organization abandoned it during the 1990s when it moved to Florida. The property has been vacant since then.

In its heyday, Arrowhead Springs Hotel hosted Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart and Lucille Ball, and Elizabeth Taylor and hotel heir Nicky Hilton honeymooned there, according to the report.

The property at 24918 Arrowhead Springs Road could be attractive to developers for several reasons. An environmental impact report has been completed and the site is included in the city’s general plan, according to the report.
