Logistics airport grabs another tenant

Newell Brands, a global consumer goods company, has signed a three-year lease to occupy part of an industrial building at Southern California Logistics Airport in Victorville.

The company, which has been a tenant at the logistics airport for 10 years, will be located in 195,508-square-feet of Distribution Center 18, a 370,000-square-foot building that was completed last week, according to a statement.

Plastipak Packaging Inc., which designs and manufactures plastic containers used in the food, beverage and consumer products industries, will occupy the rest of the building. It signed a lease last year to take up approximately 174,500 square feet of that structure.

Both of those leases are expected to generate about 200 jobs. Financial terms of the leases were not released.

“This is the second industrial facility at SCLA within the past year to be fully pre-leased to large users,” said Brian Parno, chief operating officer of Stirling Development Lake Forest, the airport’s master developer, in the statement.

“Big box leases in the [north] Inland Empire are about two-thirds the cost of facilities in other Inland Empire markets. This cost savings, along with nearby affordable housing and [an] abundant labor force, makes SCLA an attractive location for manufacturing and distribution users.”

The logistics airport, sometimes called Victorville Airport, is the former George Air Force Base. It is an 8,500 acre multimodal freight transportation hub that includes 60 million square feet set aside for commercial and industrial development, according to the statement.

CBRE Group Inc. represented Stirling Development and Newell Brands in the lease negotiations.

Newell Brands is based Hoboken, N.J. Its products include Paper Mate, Sharpie, Jostens, Mr. Coffee and Rubbermaid, according to the company’s website.
