Trucking firm, union reach agreement

YRC Worldwide and the Teamster’s Union have reached a contract agreement that might help the struggling global trucking company stay in business.

The deal, which was completed last week, happened after the union – which represents an estimated 26,000 YRC employees – overwhelmingly rejected a plan that it said asked for too many union concessions, according to a report originally published in The Press-Enterprise.

Details of the agreement, which must still be approved by union members, are expected to be released this week.

YRC operates several logistics facilities in the Inland Empire and employs about 1,500 people here, making it one of the two-county region’s largest logistics employers. The Fortune 500 company fell into debt after buying several smaller companies during the past 10 years, according to the report.
