9/11 tribute planned

This year’s Route 66 Cruisin’ Reunion, scheduled to be held this weekend in Ontario, will pay tribute to the victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

“Fueled by the Fallen 9/11 Vehicles” has been added to this year’s event, said Sue Oxarart, spokeswoman for the Greater Ontario Convention & Visitors Bureau, organizer of the Route 66 Cruisin’ Reunion.

Five Camaros known collectively as the 9/11 Angels, will pay tribute to five categories of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks: people who died in the two towers at the World Trade Center, those who died in flight, first responders who perished and people who were killed at the Pentagon.

The cars, which were formerly used by law enforcement, will include the names of all 9/11 victims. All five vehicles will be parked near the Firefighter Combat Challenge, which will he held from Saturday and Sunday at Euclid Avenue and G Street, Oxcart said.

“They called us about two weeks ago and asked if they could be added to this year’s program,” Oxarart said of Fueled by the Fallen, a non-profit organization that raises money for military and public safety personnel and their families. “We decided it would be a good fit.”

Fueled by the Fallen made its first appearance on the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks when the vehicles were unveiled on the lawn of the U.S. Capital.
