Chaffey College could receive up to $700 million for improvements, and a satellite campus, if voters approve a bond measure this November.
Measure P would pay for upgrades to classrooms and laboratories, repair gas, electrical and sewer lines, fix leaky roofs and make improvements to facilities used for job training and to help veterans, according to a statement.
Several 1950’s-era buildings on the Rancho Cucamonga campus would be demolished and replaced. The new structures would include four instructional buildings, a welcome center, a parking structure and a library.
A campus would also be built in Ontario, although the statement did not say where.
The bond will require a citizens’ oversight committee and annual audits. It will allow Chaffey to qualify for state matching funds. With this bond and existing taxes authorized by voters in 2002 under Measure L, the average homeowner in the Chaffey Community College District will pay $75 extra in annual property taxes, which is less than residents pay in other community college districts in the region.
