Chaffey College’s Industrial Technical Learning Center has received a $700,000 grant that it will use to improve its advanced manufacturing apprenticeship program.
InTech will use the money to work closer with several agencies it’s already allied with, including the San Bernardino County Workforce Development Board, the Manufacturers’ Council of the Inland Empire and the Inland Empire/Desert Region College Consortium, according to a statement.
The grant, from the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, is for three and a half years, according to a statement.
InTech launched its apprenticeship program in July with five employers and 32 apprentices. The apprentices are looking to start careers as industrial maintenance technicians or industrial mechanics.
“The industrial maintenance electrician and industrial mechanic apprenticeship not only give individuals a career pathway to family-sustaining wages, but also provide manufacturers with access to an untapped talent pool,” said Sandra Sisco, director of the InTech Center, and of economic development at Chaffey College, in the statement.
InTech, which began two years ago, is on the grounds of California Steel Industries in Fontana. It has classrooms, labs and other equipment and provides job training for the local logistics and manufacturing industries.
