UC Riverside will complete its reaccreditation with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges soon.
A visit by WASC officials, scheduled to be held Oct. 28-30, finishes a process that began two years ago, according to a statement on the university’s website.
A member university is usually reaccredited every six to 10 years. UC Riverside was first accredited in 1956 – two years after it was founded, and three years before it officially became part of the US system – and was last reaccredited in 2018.
“Accreditation is important for multiple reasons,” said Ken Baerenklau, associate provost and WASC’s Accreditation Liaison Officer, in the statement. “It signals to students, parents, peers, state and local governments, and the public at large that UC Riverside is a high-quality institution.”
WASC’s Senior College and University Commission is scheduled to discuss the visiting official’s report at its February meeting, and make its decision shortly thereafter, according to the statement.
