UC Riverside has been ranked one of the top two U.S. institutions of higher learning in social mobility by U.S. News & World Report.
The publication recently named UC Riverside, Florida International University number one in the category based on federal Pell Grants, which are given to individuals from lower-income families.
Rankings are determined by how many Pell Grant recipients graduate at that institution within six years, and how that number compares with the school’s six-year graduation rate of non-Pell Grant recipients.
About 48 percent of UC Riverside’s undergraduates receive a Pell Grant, according to a statement on the university’s website.
During the past eight years, UC Riverside has been ranked first six times and second twice in social mobility by USN&WR, renowned for its rankings of colleges and universities in various categories.
Cal State San Bernardino was ranked third, and the University of Redlands 17th, for social mobility among western regional universities.
