Stater Bros. makes large donation to help fight cancer

Stater Bros. Charities has made a major donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, one of the largest voluntary health agency’s in the world dedicated to curing blood cancer.

The $366,703 contribution will benefit the society’s Susan Lang Pay-It-Forward Patient Travel Assistance program in Southern California, according to a statement.

That program helps blood cancer patients who cannot afford travel expenses get to doctor appointments or treatment centers.

Money for this donation was raised in an in-store campaign, with cash collected from employees and shoppers. Stater Bros. Charities has raised approximately $4.5 million for the society since 2008.

“Stater Bros. is committed to caring for cancer patients in the communities we are privileged to serve,” said Nancy Negrette, chairwoman and president of Stater Bros. Charities, in the statement. “We’re very proud to support the LLS Patient Travel Assistance program to ease some of the financial burden that blood cancer patients encounter while seeking treatment.”

Stater Bros. Charities also partners with the society at its yearly “Light the Night Walk” at the Angel Stadium in Anaheim, which honors anyone who has been affected by blood cancer.

This year’s walk is scheduled for Sept. 21.
