Omnitrans has cancelled its annual May service updates.
Normally, the San Bernardino County transit agency announces service changes and publishes an updated “Bus Book” during the fifth month of the year, according to a statement on the agency’s website.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the agency to makes significant change to its service routes, making the yearly update unnecessary.
In March Omnitrans put in an emergency service because of reduced ridership, a reduction caused in part by state and county stay-at-home orders.
Earlier this month, the agency made more changes to several routes to better conform with ridership levels during the crisis. Because of that, several changes that were to have happened in September were installed earlier than first planned.
The next set of changes is scheduled for September, another month when Omnitrans – the county’s largest transit agency – regularly tweaks its service operations, according to the statement.
