CSUSB Palm Desert campus to get student center

Cal State San Bernardino has received $79 million from the state legislature, money the university will use to build the first phase of the Student Center Building on its Palm Desert campus.

The 23,700-square-foot facility will accommodate about 4,000 students and and free up other space on campus for classrooms and offices, according to a statement on the university’s website.

The building, which has been years in the making, will include an advising-tutoring center, career center, campus library, group study space, campus bookstore and a student health center, among other amenities.

A construction timeline was not disclosed.

“This is a big day for the Palm Desert Campus and the Coachella Valley community,” said Tomás D. Morales, president of Cal State San Bernardino, in the statement. “The new Student Center Building will be life changing for students by providing increased access to critical services while helping to expand higher education in the Coachella Valley.”

State Assemblymen Chad Mayes, I-Rancho Mirage, and Eduardo Garcia, D-Coachella, helped secure funding for the project, according to the statement.
