Cal State San Bernardino will break ground next month on a $127 million performing arts center.
The 500-seat facility, which is expected to open in the 2024-25 academic year, will be built south of the campus’ current performing arts center, according to a statement on the university’s website.
A ceremony for the 73,337-square-foot project is scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 7 on the lawn of John F. Pfau Library.
When completed, the performing arts center will be one of the largest cultural facilities of its kind in the Inland Empire.
It will also be the first state-funded academic building on campus that will be developed under Cal State San Bernardino’s current master plan. Nearly five year ago, the university’s board of trustees approved the updated campus master plan, which is designed to accommodate 25,000 full-time students.
Cal State San Bernardino had a little more than 16,000 full-time students at the start of the 2021-22 academic year, according to the schools’ website.
Besides hosting music and theatrical productions staged by students, the performing arts center will create a “front door” to the campus “that shows a modern and forward-looking face” to visitors and the community, according to the statement.
