College to build training center

Crafton Hills College has broken ground on a $9.5 million public safety training center.

The future home to the school’s fire academy and public safety programs will be paid for with a $1.8 million donation from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians and revenue from Measure CC, according to a statement.

Passed in 2018, Measure CC was a bond measure meant to raise money for upgrades on the Yucaipa campus and San Bernardino Valley College.

More than 150 people attended the Jan. 20 groundbreaking ceremony. A completion date was not released.

“This project has been a decade in the making and serves as the best example of what happens when a community comes together for a common goal,” said Kevin Horan, president of Crafton Hills College, in the statement.

The fire academy was started in 1982. Since then, it and other first-responder programs – including training for paramedics and respiratory care – has undergone several upgrades.
