Apple Valley will cut electricity costs

Apple Valley has started a program that allows residents to install a solar + battery storage system that can reduce reduce electric bills by 20 percent.

Powered Up Apple Valley is a partnership between the High Desert town and Electriq Power Holdings Inc. in San Leandro, which provides clean, low-cost energy to houses and small businesses, according to a statement on Apple Valley’s website.

More than 17,000 single-family homes are expected to participate in the program, which has no income, credit or property lien requirements.

“We’re excited to bring this program to the town, as it will help residents be prepared for power outages and lower electricity costs,” said Guy Eisenbrey, Apple Valley’s director of municipal services, in the statement. “We believe this program is a solution for all of our residents interested in solar plus battery systems.”

Besides cutting costs, a solar + battery systems also stores energy for use during peak demand periods, according to the statement.
