Cal State San Bernardino and San Bernardino County have entered into an agreement that both parties hope will make the state’s CalFresh Program more accessible to students.
University President Tomas Morales, County Supervisor Joe Baca Jr. and San Bernardino Community College District Chancellor Diana Z. Rodriguez have signed a memorandum of understanding calling for data sharing among the university, the county Transitional Assistance Department and the county Research, Outcomes and Quality Support Division, according to statement.
The agreement was signed during a ceremony April 12. Cal State San Bernardino is the first Cal State school to enter into such an agreement.
“Hungry students cannot learn,” Morales said in the statement. “This data-sharing program aims to help us reach more.eligible students, and ensure individuals do not fall off our radar.”
Sharing data will allow Cal State San Bernardino to communicate with students and analyze the impact of CalFresh has upon student success.
CalFresh is the state’s name for the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, often called SNAP.
