Back-to-school shopping has apparently started early this year.
By early July, 55 percent of back-to-school and college shoppers nationwide had started shopping for the items they will need for the upcoming academic year, according to the National Retail Federation in Washington, D.C.
Eighty six percent of consumers say they still have to complete half of their purchases, forty five percent of those who still have shopping to do say they are waiting for the best deals or they they still don’t know exactly what they need to buy.
“The back-to-school and college season is an important time for retailers and consumers,” said Katherine Cullen, the federation’s vice president of industry and consumer insights, in the statement.
“Families and students are eager to get a jumpstart on their shopping for the start of the school year. Retailers have anticipated this early demand and are well-positioned to offer a variety of products at competitive prices.”
