Lock Dawson joins park advocacy group

Riverside Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson has joined the Mayors for Parks Coalition, a national group that lobbies for more federal funding for urban parks.

Created 11 years ago, the group advocates on behalf of the Land and Water Conservation Fund’s Stateside and Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership programs, according to a statement on the city’s website.
In 2020, the coalition helped pass the Great American Outdoors Act, which provides $900 million in funding for the water conservation fund.

“I am excited to work with City Parks Alliance and be a part of this important coalition,” Lock Dawson said in the statement. “Historic disinvestment has left many communities without access to quality parks and recreation opportunities, and with park assets in need of significant upgrade.”
