UC Riverside held a groundbreaking ceremony on Oct. 4 for a 100,700-square-foot instructional building.
The four-story Undergraduate Teaching and Learning Facility will give the university classroom, laboratory, and studio space, particularly undergraduate courses that attract many student, according to a statement on the school’s website.
The $156.3 million structure will seat about 1,700 students. It will have two lecture halls, 19 mid- to small-sized classrooms, six biology labs, four chemistry labs, and a dance studio.
“When students come to learn in the UTLF, they will feel the same sense of pride and excellence that students feel at other top research universities across the country,” said Ken Baerenklau, associate provost, in the statement. “Students will learn in modern, flexible classrooms that give our faculty options to choose from, including the ability to reconfigure a large lecture into small group activity, and then back again.”
The building will be located at the entrance to the campus at Canyon Crest Drive on the former Parking Lot 19. It is expected to be completed by the summer of 2026, according to the statement.
