Moreno Valley wins League of Cities award

Moreno Valley has been recognized by the League of California Cities for its efforts to get city businesses to hire Moreno Valley residents.

The city recently received a Helen Putnam Award for Excellence from the league – one of 10 cities to receive that honor – for its Hire Mo-Val program, which has created nearly 34,000 jobs and revived the city’s economy, according to a league statement.

The program has also boosted household incomes in the city by 53 percent.

Established in 1982, the Helen Putnam Award is given out in 12 categories, three of which this year went to Modesto in Northern California: Health and Wellness, Housing, and Public Safety. Moreno Valley’s award was in the Excellence in City-Business Relations category.

Cities are recognized for helping their residents by lowering costs and improving service deliveries, according to the statement.
