Kohl’s to shut down San Bernardino fulfillment center

Kohl’s will close its E-commerce fulfillment center in San Bernardino this May.

The 24-hour facility at 825 Central Ave., which has operated since 2010, will shut down when its lease expires, according to a statement on the company’s website.

The department store chain also plans to close 27 underperforming stores nationwide, including 10 in California, the most of any state. None of the California stores are in the Inland Empire.

Kohl’s operates more than 1,150 stores nationwide. The closings are expected to be completed by April.

The San Bernardino fulfillment center is one of 15 fulfillment centers that Kohl’s operates in the United States.

All associates have been offered a severance package or the chance to apply for job openings within the chain.

“We always take these decisions very seriously,” said Tom Kingsbury, Kohl’s chief executive officer, in the statement. “As we continue to build on our long-term growth strategy, it is important that we also take difficult but necessary actions to support the health and future of our business for our customers and our teams.”
