Mt. San Jacinto College’s Temecula Valley Campus has been granted center status by the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges.
That designation means $2.2 million more in funding for MSJC, which is expected to make it easier for the two-year school to provide higher education for residents of southwest Riverside County, according to an MSJC statement.
“This is a historic moment for Mt. San Jacinto College and our Temecula Valley Campus,” said Roger Schultz, MSJC’s superintendent and president, in the statement. “The board’s unanimous approval recognizes the impact of the (Temecula Valley) Campus in addressing the educational needs of our community.”
In 2017, MSJC bought a 365,000-square-foot building in Temecula for $55 million, money raised by the passage of Measure AA, a local bond measure. Three years later, it was turned into a learning center that stayed open during the worst of the pandemic.
Today, the branch campus serves about 4,000 full-time students a year, according to the statement.
