inland Empire unemployment rises

Inland region added jobs in April

The Inland Empire posted a 4.9 percent unemployment rate in April, essentially unchanged from the previous month, but above the 4.6 percent recorded exactly one year earlier, according to a report.

That compares with a five percent for California and 3.9 percent for the nation during the same period, the state Employment Development Department reported.

All of the above figures are unadjusted, meaning they do not take into account seasonal factors that typically influence the job market. Statewide, the adjusted unemployment rate in April was 5.3 percent.

Employers in Riverside and San Bernardino counties added 6,400 non-farm jobs between March and April and 3,200 jobs since April 2024. Month-over-month, private education and health services accounted for 2,600 of those job gains. Health care-social assistance and leisure-hospitality added 2,400 jobs and 2,200 jobs, respectively.

Trade, transportation, and utilities (minus 1,400) lost the most jobs between March and April, according to the department.
