An Inland Empire-based fair housing organization has received a grant from the federal government.

The Inland Fair Housing and Mediation Board received $650,000 in grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to fight housing discrimination, according to a published report.

That group, which has satellite offices in San Bernardino and Victorville, was one of 95 fair housing organizations throughout the United States that was given grants. Collectively, those groups received more than $38 million to investigate alleged housing discrimination.

Inland Fair Housing was awarded a Fair Housing Organization Initiative grant and Private Initiative, the same grants it has received during the past few years. The grants were announced last week.

Inland Fair Housing investigated 86 allegations of mortgage fraud and predatory lending during the 2011-12 fiscal year, and 36 of those cases remain open. The group is also investigating 40 cases of alleged housing discrimination, according to the report.
