Hemet is trying to annex 1,000 acres on the city’s west side.
The open space has been within the city’s sphere of influence for more than 40 years, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.
The property is between Stetson Avenue and Domenigoni Parkway and between the city limits near California Avenue and Warren Road. There are 11 property owners in the parcel, including the city, which wants to market the property it owns to developers, the report stated.
Hemet will apply to the Riverside Local Agency Formation Commission, which is in charge of all annexation requests. The commission will hold a public hearing on the request, probably this summer, before it makes its ruling, according to the report.
