Clean vehicle fleet to be used for public transportation

Riverside has begun operating the Riverside Clean Air Carshare program, a fleet of hydrogen-powered vehicles that will provide clean transportation in underserved neighborhoods.

The program is a partnership between the city’s Center for Environmental Research and Technology (C-CERT), UC Riverside, CALSTART and the California Air Resources Board, according to a statement on Riverside’s website.

“This project is a great example of how public-private partnerships can implement real-world, data-driven transportation solutions,” said Matthew Barth, associate dean for research and graduate education at UC Riverside’s Bourns College of Engineering, in the statement. “CE-CERT is proud to support a program that directly benefits the Riverside community while advancing California’s climate goals.”

Held April 29, the opening ceremony included featured remarks from city leaders, program partners, and supporters of clean transportation. Attendees explored hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and learned how the program complies with California’s climate and equity goals, according to the statement.
