Gary Thompson has been named Jurupa Valley’s permanent city manager.

Thompson, who has been the new city’s interim city manager for the past seven months, is Jurupa Valley’s first permanent city manager, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.

During its March 19 meeting, the city council voted 5-0 during a closed door session to appoint Thompson. A final contract with all compensation and benefits is expected to be presented to the council next month.

Thompson, 64, has earned $12,500 a month as interim city manager. He has worked with the city on a contract basis since March 2011, when residents voted to incorporate, then report stated.

Jurupa Valley officially became a city on July 1, 2011.

Thompson worked for Menifee and was a consultant in Compton before joining Jurupa Valley, according to the report.
