Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national current events and politics, with a few mortgage tips along the way. Ed delivers intelligent, entertaining radio that makes hard news easy to understand!
This week, Ed opens the show with a clip from the movie “Frost/Nixon” in which the Richard Nixon character says, “When the President does it, it’s not illegal” – to which Ed says, “There’s a line right out of the Obama playbook.” Ed welcomes back favorite guest Scott McAfee, proprietor of Don’s Bicycles in Redlands, and the two discuss the major events taking place in the world this week.
They start with the Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which has received such negative national attention to the point that Governor Mike Pence, who called it “mischaracterized and misunderstood,” requested that it be changed to specifically prohibit discrimination against gays. Ed and Scott agree that changes to the law were not really necessary because it was sufficiently provisioned in the first place, and the governor is back pedaling – an unappealing trait to people who want a strong leader. “It sounds weak,” Ed says. A Unite IE Conservative Conference attendee had recommended watching Pence as a possible presidential contender, and Ed no longer wants to.
Next, Ed brings up retiring Senator Harry Reid’s comment on Mitt Romney when interviewed by CNN this week. Remember when Reid told America from Senate floor that Romney doesn’t pay his taxes? This was disproved by the Washington Post fact checker among others, yet it was one of several factors believed to have cost Romney the election. When CNN’s Dana Bash asked Reid this week if he regretted doing that, his response was an icy, “Romney didn’t win, did he?” His chilling tone was accentuated by his “Bond villain” appearance, thanks to the prescribed sunglasses; if you haven’t heard this yet, tune in to The Main Event this week to get up to speed.
Finally, Ed and Scott discuss the most recent news on Iran. For those not in the know, there is a nuclear negotiation taking place this week and the White House has cut a deal that benefits nobody but Iran. It certainly doesn’t benefit the United States, and it most definitely does not benefit our ally Israel. Secretary of State John Kerry said Thursday that “there will be no sunset” to the deal, but some provisions will end after “10 years or 25 years” – a total contradiction. The entire thing is confounded, but what’s clear is that America cannot trust Iran and our government never should have entered into negotiations. Wait until you hear Ed’s response to Kerry’s claim that the deal will “give the international community confidence.” Tune in Saturday morning to hear it!
On this week’s show, you’ll also hear:
More comments on Ted Cruz’s eligibility to run for President.
Ed’s comments on Jewish people who support Israel, but vote Democrat. Ed is a Jewish-born Christian who has strong feelings on this.
Ed’s personal anecdote about a race-baiting real estate agent. You won’t believe it!
