Inland Empire grocer donates to charity, women’s health

Stater Bros. Charities, an Inland Empire grocery store chain that begin in Yucaipa in 1936, presented a check in the amount of $20,000 to Community Action Partnership (CAP) as part of the Harvesting Hope in the Summer campaign.

CAP’s is a national nonprofit organization that works with partnering agencies to assure the issue of poverty is addressed. Together, the network serves more than 16.2 million people a year across the nation.

“At Stater Bros., we don’t just do business in the community, we are part of the community,” said Jack H. Brown, chairman and CEO of Stater Bros. Markets. “The Harvesting Hope in the Summer Program helps to give our local food pantries and the valued communities they serve some extra help when it’s needed most.”

Stater Bros. Charities also donated $125,000 to Redlands Community Hospital’s Women’s Health Imaging Center for their comprehensive cancer treatment efforts. The funds for the donation were raised at the 2014 Annual Stater Bros. Charities Believe Walk. Each year, the funds collected at the annual Believe Walk are donated to various cancer-fighting organizations in the Inland Empire.

The Women’s Health Imaging Center provides a number of services to help women reduce their risk of cancer, including mammograms, bone density tests, ultrasound exams and breast MRIs.

Since 2008, Stater Bros. Charities has contributed more than $75 million in food and funds to local Southern California communities. The charitable side of the grocery chain focuses on giving back to its employees’ community by providing funding to local organizations and causes that benefit hunger relief, children’s well-being, education, health and help for veterans.
