Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national current events and politics, with a few mortgage tips along the way. Ed delivers intelligent, entertaining radio that makes hard news easy to understand!
This week, Ed and his guest Scott start off by talking about the law that will gradually increase the California minimum wage until it reaches $15 an hour in the year 2022 (2023 for businesses with 25 employees or fewer). If you need a rundown of the reasons raising the minimum wage will hurt businesses and affect everyone negatively, Ed has them for you on this week’s show! You’ll also hear a labor activist say that raising the minimum wage nationally will help small businesses “compete with corporate companies,” and Ed and Scott will eviscerate it.
Next, it’s on to national politics and the election. The tension escalated between Donald Trump and the Republican National Committee this week, thanks to Trump’s sour grapes about Ted Cruz taking all 34 delegates in Colorado (a state with no primary or caucus). “I would think the people of Colorado wouldn’t like that,” Ed says. “But,” he says of the process, “this happened in August of last year so Trump had plenty of time to read the rules.” By mid-week, RNC chair Reince Priebus was responding to Trump to defend his organization. He tweeted on Tuesday, “Nomination process known for a year + beyond. It’s the responsibility of the campaigns to understand it. Complaints now? Give us all a break.”
“I can’t disagree with that,” Ed says. “The rules are the same for everybody. This is America.”
In the second half, we’re talking about Hillary Clinton’s rough week. It started at a dinner in New York last weekend, when a comedy skit she performed with New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio didn’t go as well as planned. If you haven’t yet heard about the “CP time” disaster or you just want to hear someone who thinks it’s as ridiculous as you do, tune in to The Main Event this week. “Remember when Trump hosted Saturday Night Live and he told them which skits he couldn’t do?” Ed says. “That was presidential. Why couldn’t Hillary do that?” Then in the Democrat debate Thursday night, Hillary was grilled about her Wall Street connections and high speech fees – something that she didn’t take kindly to. It’s wildly entertaining, so if you missed the debate, tune in to hear it.
There’s lots to talk about this week and Ed is covering it all! You’ll also hear banter about:
- John Kasich’s delusions of winning the nomination
- Thoughts on Bernie Sanders’ beef against banks
- Some fun impressions of the candidates
