The UC Riverside School of Medicine has a new dean.
Dr. Deborah Deas’ appointment was confirmed Monday by the University of California Regents Committee on Health Services, according to a university statement.
She is scheduled to take over May 16.
Deas, who will also be the school’s chief executive officer, was previously interim dean and a professor of psychiatry at the Medical School of South Carolina.
She held several other positions there, including chief academic officer and associate dean for admissions, and she has been active in the Association of American Medical Colleges, according to the statement.
“Dr. Deas brings an exceptional record of commitment to medical education and research, clinical affairs and addressing the comprehensive healthcare needs of underserved communities,” UC Riverside Chancellor Kim A. Wilcox said in the statement.
“[She has] a firm commitment to diversifying the physician workforce,” Cox continued. “We look forward to the leadership she will bring to our campus and community.”
