Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national current events and politics, with a few mortgage tips along the way. Ed delivers intelligent, entertaining radio that makes hard news easy to understand!
This week, Ed wishes everyone a happy Independence Day and fills listeners in on his vacation plans. “I’ll be in Philadelphia in a room full of Democrats,” he says, “while you’re all listening to the show and having fun.” He encourages everyone to think about their independence here in the U.S. and be grateful for Great Britain attaining theirs last week.
Kicking things off is some analysis of the Brexit vote, where Ed points out that President Obama was wrong in his predictions against it. The citizens of the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union in a 52% to 48% vote with the highest voter turnout in 25 years. It reminds Ed of another time the President got it wrong: “Remember when Obama thought he was loved by everyone in the world?” Ed says. “He and Michelle flew to Amsterdam to ask if the Olympics could be in his hometown of Chicago – and they promptly awarded it to Brazil.”
Ed will also address the charges of “xenophobia” being thrown at everyone who supports the Brexit movement: “You know, when they start cutting people’s heads off and wearing suicide vests, I’m just not comfortable with that. Does that make me a xenophobe?” He agrees with Bill Maher, who said, “Is it really xenophobia if there’s something to be afraid of?” On this week’s show, you’ll also hear from one of the co-founders of the Leave Vote campaign behind Brexit; he says that people were fed up with their borders being opened up to 500 million people, and Ed agrees.
As we near the end of the first half, Ed moves on to the terror attack in Istanbul, Turkey that killed 41 and wounded 230. Ed plays a clip of Secretary of State John “Lurch” Kerry sounding unsurprised and casually attributing the attack to ISIS – or as he calls it, “Daesh.” In the second half, Ed plays Trump’s reaction to the attack: “It isn’t technical, but it’s what we’re all thinking,” he said.
Ed’s also breaking news, because most people are unaware of this: On June 14 at LAX, a woman dressed in Islamic garb threatened to bomb America and kill gays in a bizarre rant that lasted over 15 minutes, then walked right into the airport. She was later arrested at the ticket counter. You haven’t heard any of this in the media – but fortunately, cameraman Tony Vera caught the whole thing. You’ll hear part of it on this week’s show in addition to Ed’s commentary.
There’s a bit of mortgage talk on this week’s show also, with Ed talking TRID; that’s the TILA RESPA Integrated Disclosure Rule that’s making it harder for mortgage lenders to do their jobs. Tune in this week to hear why – but don’t tune out before you’ve heard all about the Benghazi report, with audio from the major players on the committee that solidifies why Hillary Clinton isn’t fit to be President. You don’t want to miss it!
