Two Riverside residents who were posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor will be honored by the city today.
During a 9:30 a.m. ceremony, the library at 2985 Madison St. will be renamed Staff Sergeant Salvador J. Lara Casa Blanca Library, according to a statement on the city’s website.
At 11 a.m., the library at 4033-C Chicago Ave. will be renamed Specialist Jesus S. Duran Eastside Library.
Both ceremonies will be attended by family, friends, city officials and other dignitaries, and both are open to the public.
President Obama named both men recipients of the Medal of Honor, the country’s highest military honor, in 2014. Since then, the city has worked with each family to come up with public memorials, according to the statement.
