Construction jobs increased three percent in the Inland Empire between November 2012 and November 2013, another sign of economic recovery for the two-county region.
An estimated 2,100 construction jobs were added in the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario market during that 12-month period, according to report released Tuesday by the Associated General Contractors of America.
That ranked the Inland region 155th among nearly 400 major metropolitan regions for most construction jobs added, the report found.
Los Angeles and Orange counties added an estimated 17,300 construction jobs during that time. The greater Atlanta market added the most -10,500 jobs – of any one metropolitan area, according to the trade group.
Nationwide, 211 major markets added construction employment during that one-year period, according to the report.
Those are good numbers for a recovering economy, but they’re still well off pre-recession levels, said Stephen E. Sandherr, the association’s chief executive officer.
“It will take many more months of strong economic growth and new investments in public infrastructure before many places experience construction employment levels close to their prior peaks,” Sandherr said in a statement.
