Sprint Corp., one of the largest providers of wireless and internet service in the United States, is expanding its presence in Southern California.
The telecommunications giant, reportedly the fourth largest mobile network operator in the country, will add 78 retail locations throughout the southland by the end of this year, according to a statement released Tuesday.
That will include 22 stores in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, said John Votava, Sprint spokesman.
The expansion will bring about 550 jobs to Southern California, including 155 jobs to the Inland Empire, Votava said.
“We’re a large corporation and we’re dealing with a lot of competition,” Votava said. “We need to get more locations so it will be easier for people to visit Sprint.”
The company, which serviced nearly 60 million customers as of March 31, has secured two locations each in Hemet, Rialto, Ontario and Moreno Valley and one each in Riverside, Fontana, Coachella, Barstow, Pomona, Desert Hot Springs, Victorville, Lake Elsinore, Apple Valley and Highland, Votava said.
Four additional sites have yet to be determined, Votava said.
Based in Overland Park, Kan., Sprint operates 300 retail stores and employs more than 1,400 people in Southern California, according to the statement.
