Amazon will hire 250,000 extra employees to help with the holiday shopping crunch, including 30,000 from California.
The full and part-time positions – mostly in packing, sorting, shipping, and selecting items to be shipped – are available to applicants from all backgrounds and with different levels of experience, according to a statement on the company’s website.
“We’re excited to hire 250,000 additional people this year to help serve customers across the country,” said John Felton, Amazon’s senior vice president of worldwide operations, in the statement. “Whether someone is looking for a short-term way to make extra money, or is hoping to take their first step toward a fulfilling and rewarding career at Amazon, there’s a role available for them.”
A fulfillment or transportation employee who starts with Amazon now will enjoy at least a 13 percent increase in pay during the next three years, Felton said.
Amazon has 28 fulfillment centers in California, including 15 in the Inland Empire, according to Fulfillment By Amazon, a website not affiliated with Amazon that helps retailers outsource shipping to Amazon.
