Baker joins Barstow recreation department

Josie Baker has started work as Barstow’s recreation activity coordinator.

A Barstow native, Baker most recently held the same position in Apple Valley for four years, and before that taught preschool at the Smart Start Academy, according to a statement on Barstow’s website.

She replaced Lucas Crank, who now works in Barstow’s public works department.

“As someone who has grown up in the High Desert, I understand how important and in-demand [recreation] programs and events are,” Baker said in the statement. “I’ve witnessed the passion of Barstow residents in my short time here, and it’s reigniting my love and drive for recreation.”

Baker is in charge of all of Barstow’s park and recreation activities, directing and evaluating multiple recreation programs. She also hires and evaluates staff and oversees all volunteers and contractors, according to the statement.
