Ontario-based Cardenas Markets raised nearly $60,000 for the American Heart Association in February.
The money will go toward the association’s “Life Is Why,” campaign, which promotes longer living through a healthier lifestyle, according to a statement.
“We are so proud to partner with our local communities and caring customers to support the American Heart Association in their fight against cardiovascular disease,” said Marisa Kutansky, spokeswoman for Cardenas Markets, in the statement.
During February, Cardenas Markets customers were able to purchase $1, $3 or $5 paper hearts at the register to support the Life Is Why campaign. They were also able to donate by rounding off their purchases to the nearest dollar.
Donations were accepted in all 64 Cardenas-owned locations, which are spread throughout California, Nevada, and Arizona, according to the statement.
