Riverside gets housing grant

City get grants for recreation, arts programs

San Bernardino has received two state grants that it will use to pay for recreation programs and artistic displays.

Combined, both grants are worth $256,000: $156,000 from the state Department of Developmental Services and $100,000 from the California Arts Council, according to a statement on the city’s website.

The developmental services grant will help pay for social and recreational programming at San Bernardino’s Center for Individual Development, which hosts programs for anyone with physical, developmental, or mental disabilities.

Part of that grant will be used to start a child development program, in partnership with the San Bernardino County’s Inland Regional Center.

The arts council grant will help the city showcase local artists with public murals, performances, and workshops, all of which will show San Bernardino’s cultural, social, and economic history, according to the statement.

“These grants will help the Parks Department enhance our service levels to community members of all abilities, as well as showcase local artists and inspire new ones,” said Lydie Gutfeld, director of parks, recreation, and community services, in the statement.
