Redlands cut its water use dramatically in August.
City staff originally reported an increase in water use last month, but a second look at the data revealed a 20 percent decrease year-over-year, according to a report in the Redlands Daily Facts.
Officials attributed the reduction to mandatory water restrictions implemented by the state and some educational efforts undertaken by the city, the report stated.
In July, Redlands ranked second in the state for increased water use, with a 14 percent increase compared with July 2013, according to the report.
