Building approved for UCR business school

City starts work on community building

Norco has broken ground on “The Barn,” a 21,000-square-foot multipurpose building being developed inside the George Ingalls Event Center.

The $3.5 million project will be owned and operated by Norco and be available for public and private gatherings, including weddings, expositions and business meetings, according to a statement on the city’s website.

It is expected to open next August.

The Barn will replace three pole barns – pole-supported structures with a high ceiling and no basement – that were used mostly for livestock shows.

“This neighborhood arena has grown into an impressive events center that attracts visitors from around the world,” Mayor Greg Newton said in the statement. “Investments like the construction of The Barn are necessary to preserve our lifestyle for future generations.”

The project will be located on the north side of the 80-acre events center at 3737 Crestview Drive. That facility, Norco’s largest asset, includes two arenas, a banquet hall and Veterans Memorial Plaza.
