City to replace bridge

Moreno Valley will replace the bridge at Moreno Beach Drive and the 60 Freeway, a 50-year-old structure built by the California Department of Transportation.

Construction is expected to begin this summer and be completed in early 2023, according to a statement on the city’s website.

The Moreno Beach Drive project is one of several road repair projects undertaken recently by the city. It will replace a two-lane bridge with a seven-lane bridge and rebuild the north side of the interchange to create better freeway access.

Improvements will also include a new westbound auxiliary lane and a southbound Moreno Beach Drive to 60 Freeway on ramp.

“Repairing our roads is one of our top priorities, and when Moreno Valley residents voice their concerns, we listen,” Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez said in the statement. “I look forward to the timely completion of this major road enhancement, which will alleviate the safety concerns of many community members.”

Funding will come from state and federal grants, development impact fees and revenue generated by utility agencies. Cost of the project was not disclosed.
