Andy Cortez has been appointed general manager – chief engineer of Riverside County’s Department of Waste Resources.
A lifetime Riverside County resident, Cortez has worked in the department since 1998, when he started as a junior engineer, according to a statement on the county’s website.
“Selecting an experienced leader for this department is invaluable as we enhance environmental waste management practices in Riverside County,” said Board Chair Chuck Washington, in the statement.
“Andy’s appointment reflects dedication to excellent solid waste management operations and innovation for future waste reduction programs.”
In his new position, Cortez will help get projects approved and deal with environmental regulations. He replaces Hans Kernkamp, who stepped down recently after 20 years on the job, according to the statement.
