Riverside County is providing Pfizers’ COVID-19 vaccination to persons 16 and 17 years old.
The practice, which began Tuesday, opens the county’s vaccination program to thousands more people, according to a statement on the county’s website.
Anyone 16 or 17 years old who is eligible for Pfizer’s two-dosage treatment must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to receive a shot. The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccine is available to eligible persons 18 years old of older.
“The expansion of eligibility will allow the last large group of Riverside County adult residents to get vaccinated, and bring us one step closer to herd immunity,” said Kim Saruwatari, director of Riverside University Health System-Public Health, in the statement. “Bringing the vaccine to a younger population, where we have seen an increase in cases, is a big step forward.”
More than one million vaccinations have been administered to Riverside County residents at county clinics and those operated community providers, according to the statement.
