Redlands-based Esri has been named one of the 25 fastest growing cloud companies in the United States by PwC, the auditing, consulting and tax service.
PwC’s report assesses some of the ways cloud computing – which allows businesses to manage and streamline data generated by mobile devices, sensors and other connected devices – is reshaping the software industry, according to a statement released Tuesday.
Esri is a leader in geographic information system [GIS] technology, sometimes called smart mapping. GIS captures, stores, checks and displays data as it relates to positions on the Earth’s surface.
The company was recognized for two of its cloud-based projects: ArcGIS Online, which delivers “complex data at speed and scale,” and its “Living Atlas of the World,” which allow for easy access to large amounts of geographic data.
“When you have the information to understand a situation or an environment holistically and in real time, you are better equipped to act on that insight,” Esri president Jack Dangermond said in the statement. “Cloud computing enhances decision-making.”
Esri’s software is used by more than 350,000 organizations worldwide, including each of the 200 largest cities in the United States, two-thirds of all Fortune 500 companies and more than 7,000 colleges and universities, according to the statement.
