Robert Fish has been selected to lead the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
A firefighter with Cal Fire for nearly 25 years, Fish replaces Chief Bill Wieser, who is scheduled to retire Dec. 31 after five years in office, according to multiple reports.
Fish was appointed by the board of supervisors Dec. 9. Most recently he served as Cal Fire’s deputy chief for East County Operations, where he was in charge of 10 municipalities in a territory from Beaumont to Blythe.
Fish began his firefighting career in Moreno Valley in 1992 as a volunteer. Later, he spent five years in the Perris Emergency Command Center as a dispatch clerk and public safety communications officer, and was promoted to firefighter-paramedic in 2001.
Weiser, who had a 44-year career in statewide fire management, plans to remain in California during his retirement, according to reports.
