Grants will help businesses hurt by snowstorms

San Bernardino County has approved a program designed to help businesses that were hurt by this winter’s snow storms.

The  Mountain Small Business Grants Snow Response Program, passed recently by the board of supervisors, provides one-time grants to businesses and nonprofits, according to a statement on the county’s website.

To qualify, businesses must have been operating before Feb. 27 and be located in the affected San Bernardino Mountains.

Those with 50 or fewer employees are each eligible for a $3,000 grant, while those with more than 50 but less than 500 employees may each receive $15,000. The money is meant to help pay rent, utilities, and other costs of doing business.

“The recent snowstorm had devastating impacts for many businesses in the mountains,” said Supervisor Dawn Rowe in the statement.  “These grants will help them to recover financially as they work to reopen to serve the community

Rowe represents the third district, which includes all of the communities that were impacted by the storms.

Applications are expected to be ready within the next several weeks, according to the statement.
