High Desert City to Livestream Council Meetings

Adelanto will soon begin livestreaming its city council meetings.

Starting April 13, High Desert residents will be able to watch the twice-monthly sessions via Accela, a San Ramon company that designs communication software used by governments and other public entities, according to a statement.

The software will be available on the city’s website, ci.adelanto.ca.us. All council sessions will be archived, so anyone who can’t watch a council session live may access it at their convenience.

“There are a lot of people who can’t get to the council meetings because of health, transportation challenges, or who simply don’t want to go out at night,” Mayor Rich Kerr said in the statement. “Now that we livestream our meetings, we can connect with these folks as well as those in the council chambers.”

Apple Valley, Barstow, Hesperia and Victorville already livestream their council meetings, and Victor Valley College livestreams its monthly board of trustees sessions.

Adelanto will pay Accela, which serves more than 2,200 communities worldwide, $4,752 to provide the livestreams for one year. That’s approximately $1,250 less than the city would pay a rival company, according to the statement.
