Construction has started on major improvements to the Ramona Expressway in Riverside County.
The Mid-County Parkway Ramona Expressway Project will cover an 8.6-mile stretch from Warren Road to one mile mile east of Rider Street, according to the Riverside County Transportation Commission.
Upgrades will include a raised median, an extra lane in each direction, a new bridge over the San Jacinto River, a wildlife crossing, and improved traffic signals. The project is part of the Mid-County Parkway, a 16-mile corridor between Route 79 in Hemet Valley Interstate 215 in Perris.
“This project is about protecting lives, strengthening connections, and investing in the people and communities who depend on this corridor every day,” said Raymond Gregory, Cathedral City mayor and chair of transportation commission, in a statement.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held June 24. Construction is expected to be completed in 2028.
